1)  What is the life expectancy of a DVD?  DVD life expectancy is currently over 100 years.  Of course this means you should always handle the disk properly and never touch the recorded surface.  DVDs do not deteriorate while storing like VHS and other magnetic types of media.  So you can feel comfortable about archiving your videos in a digital format that will be preserved for future generations.     Top

2)  What type of DVD will you use and will it work in my DVD player? Only high quality industry leading blank DVD media purchased from reputable retailers will be used.   There are two popular DVD types: DVD-R and DVD+R.   DVD-R has a higher compatibility with stand alone DVD players.  However, if your DVD player does not play DVD-R media, then we can try putting your video on a DVD+R.  As a last resort, a DVD+RW will be used, which has been found to have the highest compatibility.  The downside to DVD+RW media is the cost and life span.  Also, DVD+RW can accidentally be erased by someone else with a DVD writer.  Top

3)  What if the DVD doesn't work?  Every available method known will be tried in order to get your DVD working.  If it takes 3 tries to get it right, there will be no extra cost to you.  In the end, if the final product does not work in your DVD player, and all available options have been exhausted on my end, then I will gladly refund your money.     Top

4)  Are there discounts for large orders?  Yes, I would like to reward those who want to have multiple tapes converted at once.  Should you like to have multiple tapes converted to DVD, send an email for more info.     Top

5)  How much video will fit on a DVD?  DVD standards allow for 2 hours of video to fit on a DVD.  It is possible to reduce quality in order to squeeze in more than 2 hours, but this is not recommended, as the quality will be greatly reduced.  However, if it is you really want to have more than 2 hours of video squeezed onto 1 DVD, then I can do this for you.     Top

6)  Can you add chapters to my DVD?  Yes, chapters can be created on your DVD at standard intervals, like every 4 minutes, or you can request to have chapters at certain time points on your DVD.  This can be discussed when I pick up your tape.     Top

7)  Can you make custom menus for my DVD?  Yes, menus can be created on your DVD, and this will be included for free in your DVD.  Menus can be customized with a background picture of your choice, or we can select one from a template.     Top

8)  Can you put my video on a regular CD to play in my DVD player?  It is possible to convert videos to a format called Video CD, and put them on a regular CD that will play in many DVD Players.  However, the quality is very poor, and this format does not allow for menus and chapter points.  I would prefer not to do this type of conversion for you.     Top

9)  Will the DVD work in my computer?  Yes, provided you have a DVD-Rom in your computer, and the proper software to allow viewing of DVDs, like WinDVD or PowerDVD.  One benefit of viewing your new DVD on your computer is the ability to capture still photos from your movie.  You can then save these photos, email them, or use one as a background.     Top

10)  Will my DVD work with newer High Definition TVs?  Yes.  Most high definition TVs are being sold with the new 16:9 aspect ratio.  Your DVD will be compatible with these TVs as well as all older TVs.     Top

11)  What if my movie is old and of poor quality? Is there anything you can do?  Normally the quality of your DVD will be based on the quality of the source.  I cannot greatly increase the quality of your tape, but I do have equipment that can reduce flickering, jittering, and alter the contrast and brightness.  I can assure you that your DVD will be of equal or greater quality than the source.  Thankfully, you have found my site, and you can preserve those memories now before it is too late.     Top

12)  Who is this service intended for?  This service is intended for those who want to preserve those precious memories recorded on VHS and Hi8 film.  Any VHS film can be converted to DVD, as long as you own the tape.  This also applies to commercial VHS tapes.  I will not convert any VHS which you do not legally own or have the right to copy.  If you have any questions about whether or not your VHS can be converted to DVD, send an email to admin@ConvertTapes.com.        Top

13)  Can I learn a little more about the person doing this conversion?  My name is Brian and I currently live in Baton Rouge, LA.  I started video conversion years ago when computers were finally able to capture analogue video.  Unfortunately, DVD recorders were not available to the general public then, at least not at affordable prices.  But recently, DVD recorders have come down to a more affordable price.  Now that I had all of the required components, I started converting some of my VHS movies to DVD.  I then found that the quality didn't meet my expectations.  After much trial and error, and hours of research, I decided to invest in some better equipment.  So I purchased an expensive VCR to get the best possible reading from old and degraded VHS sources.  I also bought a better capture device, which converts the analogue signal to a digital signal for use by the computer.  Now that I have converted all of my personal VHS tapes and Hi8 camcorder tapes to DVD, I can now focus on helping others do the same.        Top

14)  What payment methods do you accept?  I will accept cash, money order, check or PayPal.  If you prefer to pay by credit card, then you can use PayPal to assist.  Simply click the "Buy Now" buttons on the pricing page to help.  Please email me at admin@ConvertTapes.com for assistance.     Top

15)  Will my video be kept confidential?  Yes.  Your video will never be viewed by anyone else.  All videos transferred to my computer will be destroyed after you have received your DVD.  Video takes up a large amount of storage on a computer, and I do not have extra storage to store your video for future uses.  If you would like a duplicate of your DVD, you will need to return the DVD to me.  Please see the pricing page for more information on duplications.     Top

16)  Can you archive my video in case I ruin my copy?  Yes.  For an extra $3.50 I will make an extra copy of your movie and store it in a fire proof safe.  If you ever need an extra copy in the future, simply contact me, and I can make you an extra copy for $5.00.     Top

17)  Do you have a referral bonus?  Yes.  I would like to reward those who bring me business.  If you have previously placed an order, and you refer someone to ConvertTapes.com, and that person places an order, I will give you a $5.00 credit on your next order.  The person placing the order needs to inform me by  email of who referred them to this website.      Top
